Covid Caregiver Miracle

Your loved one falls ill.  The long-time caretaker suddenly becomes unavailable.  Now what do you do?

Take a look at a real scenario where one call to Vital Care Partners solved all their worries:

In the late afternoon on a Tuesday, about 4:30 PM, Vital Care Partners received a call. A married couple was in great distress as the wife's mother had taken ill with Covid. Not only were they concerned for her well-being, but they were miles away and had just gotten word that the long-term aides they depended on were refusing to continue care, given the circumstances.

They explained that their beloved parent lived alone in an apartment complex in Queens, helpless and isolated. Mom was juggling multiple challenges at 96 years old, including dementia, using a wheelchair, and now a Covid diagnosis. Even in the best of times, she was at a point where she needed a home health aide for assistance with all activities of daily living.

Although she was fully vaccinated, her second shot was only one week prior, and she was unfortunately exposed to Covid before she'd developed immunity. The kicker is that she likely got it from one of her long-term aides, who then refused to care for a positive-Covid patient.

The family had little time to devise a plan; knowing that after a two-day hospital stay and Covid infusion, she'd be discharged, still Covid-positive, and with no one to see to her needs and comfort her during illness. With a deadline of Thursday, they needed to act fast and get in contact with the right team to handle this dire situation.

Luckily, they called Vital Care Partners, who expertly found highly-skilled private aides willing and available to provide in-home care for Mom. They arranged a selection of professionals, both vaccinated and not, so there was no lapse in care from hospital to home.

A deeply relieved daughter and husband were able to rest assured that their family member was in good hands and on her way to restored health, despite their absence. They were incredibly grateful to have found a satisfying resolution thanks to Vital Care Partners.

Stories like these remind us how important it is to look out for our loved ones and to be prepared for possible crises. Whether you're ensuring your elderly parents have options for home care, hospital or rehab admissions/discharges, making the home handicap-accessible, or learning about Medicare and possible Medicaid options, you want to have Vital Care Partners in your corner every step of the way.

This situation was successfully resolved by CEO, Dan Goldberg, and Sandra Garrett, RN Advocate.
